Event Description/ Synopsis

Magical Jazz Trio came together in 2013 where they meet to make music every Wednesday night at starry rooftop of Esplanade, Orgo Bar. The trio is consisted of 3 experienced Jazz musicians of the scene; vocalist Dawn Ho, pianist Aya Sekine and tenor saxophonist Shawn Letts, whom has been each living their own legend, leading unique life though Jazz. At this time, star has crossed to bring them together.
Having known each other for many years, the trust they have in each other makes magic in their delivery of simple Jazz standards. Week after week, the trio’s love and passion for jazz plus seriousness in having fun have been shaping them as a solid trio.
They call themselves ‘Magical Jazz trio’ because they witness how just being together makes miracle happen in music.
For this Lunch Time Concert, the trio will also featuring another element, trumpeter Daniel Wong on few selections to add depth in the harmony and twinkle the occasion.

Biographies of performers

DAWN HO
Dawn Ho is a jazz singer hailing from Singapore began her informal training in singing at the tender age of 8 with The Amazing Grace Presbyterian church choir. Her vocal timbre makes her a natural in doing jazz / bossa nova and samba numbers. Her style has been described as sophisticated and vibrant with a tinge of sexiness. After 10 years of training and performing the classical and choral genre under Dr. Myna Chan, Dawn decided to follow her passion for jazz. In 2003, Dawn quit her job as a flight stewardess for Singapore Airlines to commit her time and energy into singing full-time, engaged vocal trainer Babes Conde (Philippines/Singapore) for jazz and pop vocal training and has not looked back since. She has performed in several countries in the region and beyond, such as Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Brunei, Taiwan, Los Angeles and even for VISA delegates at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
In October 2010, Dawn toured Mexico with highly esteemed Cuban jazz pianist Gabriel Hernandez. This collaboration has lead to a recording session of the duo that following year. Since from her return from performing at the Tai Chung Jazz Festival 2011, Dawn is currently working on the release of her second album. Currently Dawn is furthering herself by pursuing her BA HONS in Jazz Performance with Lasalle College of the Arts. Whilst working on her project bands Indigo and Magical Jazz Trio.
AYA SEKINE
Aya Sekine is a Japanese pianist/composer who has been actively performing worldwide over the past 2 decades. She is a multi-faceted artist who is well recognized as an integral part of Singapore’s music scene. As a performer, she is best known for her soulful and dynamic style of Jazz and improvisation, but also for her versatility in different genres of music. She has been invited to perform at many local festivals and enthusiastically collaborates with artists in the region. As a composer her recent work includes a Theatre@LASALLE production Romeo And Juliet and a composition project by The Pipa Quartet where her work was performed at SOTA Auditorium in August 2014. She is a member of local soul/Jazz/experimental outfit L.A.B. (Listen And Believe) as well as seasonal music project Naughty ‘Noor’ Nice. Aya holds a professional Diploma in Jazz performance from Berklee College of Music and a BA in Jazz Performance (hons) with the first-degree honours and Award for Academic Excellence. At the moment she focuses to refine her skills as a performer/composer and continues to push the artistic edge of the community where she belongs.
SHAWN LETTS
Shawn Letts is an American saxophonist/pianist, and when the late jazz giant Bill Evans heard him at age 18, Evans wrote, "Shawn Letts shows unexpected poise, maturity and thoughtfulness". Letts, an accomplished performer, composer and producer, has lived in Singapore for many years. He was a 2nd place winner of the 2006 Billboard World Song Contest. His production credits include the "Heart of Asia" CD and CD-ROM sound collection, award-winning orchestral scores for Disney Channel Asia, original music for a "Nova" episode aired many times in the States, a David Bowie DVD and Jeremy Monteiro’s most recent album together with Italian Jazz organist Alberto Marsico Jazz-Blues Brothers from Verve Records.
