The grand dame of Chinese plucked stringed instruments, the pipa is a four-stringed lute endowed with a highly expressive character and a sound likened to pearls falling on a jade tray. Find out more about its true history, techniques and classic works in this lecture-recital by Singapore’s premier Pipa Quartet, as they take the stage with their individual virtuosity and dynamism. The Pipa Quartet is the first of its kind in southeast asia, and joins the forces of award-winning pipa player, ethnomusicologist and artistic director of The TENG Company, Dr Samuel Wong, and his students. |
