Bueh Tahan Jazz Ensemble featuring Oliver Von Essen

Jazz Concert of original material and improvisations on songs featuring:
Richard Jackson: vocals,
Oliver von Essen: organ ,
Wei Xiang Tan: piano and
Darren Moore: drums
The first concert in a year long series of lunch time performances will feature Oliver von Essen, who is known to the students as the new Music Diploma Programme leader and as such an organizer and lecturer. Darren Moore and Wei Xiang Tan are also both staff members here and at the same time engaged members of Singapore’s music scene This performance will give the students an opportunity to hear were their lecturers are coming from in their own take on contemporary music. The prominent singer Richard Jackson has a history of inspired improvisational collaborations with the other members of the group. The songs presented will be vehicles for expanded improvisations by all ensemble members. The name “Bueh Tahan” means “I can’t stand it” and is meant to convey a sense of the urgency of personal expression; musical statements of the emotional now.
