Monday 9th September, 2013
1pm, SIA Theatre
Lasalle’s Lunch time Concert Series presents: Charles J Tan’s #GoNorth Tour 2013 (Asia). After releasing the critically acclaimed sophomore album at Mosaic Music Festival at Esplanade earlier this year, Charles is back with the next single, the title track from the full length, Maybe Somewhere North. The new single, in Charles' words, is a song written to honor the memory of his late grandfather who first migrated from China to Singapore in the 1940s, creating a legacy that inspired him to take the road less travelled and find his unique destiny as a traveling musician. With his full band, the folk troubadour would be fresh off the tour back from playing several cities including parts of Malaysia, Hong Kong and China.
Charles J Tan is folk and blues artist. Having toured Asia, Australia, Nashville, Los Angeles, France, Hong Kong, he is a proven performer with a soulful voice and an artful body of work that has won music competitions and received nominations for independent music awards in Melbourne, Australia. The new album is the beginning of a new sound as Charles sheds shades of comparison to John Mayer's voice and finding his own style. In this new season, Charles draws on diverse influences from the folk vein of Paul Simon and Tracy Chapman to the Americana rock sound of Counting Crows. Honest, brutal and heartfelt,Time Out Magazine describes the new album as “smooth, sweet and serene” giving it 4 out of 5 stars review. |
